| A wonderful self-published author inspired this artwork “Hare’s Temptation”. Marilyn Cole made a call to artists to create art of their characters for their book, “The Tortoise and the Hare.” I couldn’t resist the charming images I had in mind. Marilyn Cole's "The Tortoise and the Hare" is an adaptation of the classic story that undergoes a modern spin with an old-fashioned taste. Set in the woodsy Dixieland town of River Rock, this story follows the endeavors of Jack Hare, the star athlete in the annual racing event that draws more attention than the county fair itself. His rival and adversary, Terrace J. Tortoise, had a running bet on victory. But having failed to defeat the proud and agile Hare in fourteen straight races, Tortoise is more determined than ever to win this last race. He gets the feared Fox witch of the town to bestow a curse on Jack to significantly alter the odds. With the tables turned, Jack is forced to rethink everything about who he is and what his purpose is as a competitor, friend, and a husband. The unconditional support of his friends, his wife, and his own determination could hold several clues to how he might break the curse and claim back his reputation. This creative tale gave me many great ideas, this being the best of them all. I decided to paint Jack Hare in his moment of surprise…the great curse. I loved painting this straight from a drawing of mine; and although I usually dislike painting objects (in this case, clothes) I’ve changed my mind. They’re very interesting! Please check out Marilyn Cole’s book, soon to be published. She also is a digital artist with outstanding work!
