| "The day's Daylily" 5x7" acrylic on 3/4" wood (C) Cara Bevan 2009 |
| During the spring and summer, flowers where I live go wild. They grow big, beautiful, and plentiful. One lovely patch of flowers is wild daylilies. They grow in a great circle around a stout Japanese maple tree. Every day, they bloom and die in an amazing cycle; you never know what the flowers will look like the next day. Their almost neon colors and elegant, flowing forms always grab my attention. I find it interesting that when they die, seedpods are left behind to create the next year of wild daylilies. We’ve been lucky to have these plants skirt the Japanese maple tree for several years and I hope they continue to. It’s hard not to appreciate the color they give to the world. |
