| To finish the set of cat portrait commissions I have painted Victor, the gentle giant. Victor is very large, just over 15 pounds, with a long body. Although his sister, Victoria, is small and long haired, Victor is big and short haired with a fine coat. He has quite the character. When his owner Rebecca comes home from work he’s looking out the window to see her. When she opens the door he lays down on the rug and shows his belly in what Becky calls “flirting”. Victor is also very talented vocally. He trills his meows into sounds that seem like words. In the mornings particularly his calls sound like “Hellllo? Anyone awake? Food? Hi, I’m waiting out here…hi?” He really knows how to get attention! In fact, when Becky is at the computer he stares at the back of her head and meows until she turns around. When she gets up to pet him he scampers away. This happens several times in the course of a day. When Victor isn’t playing tag, he’s a furry shadow. He chases Becky everywhere, even to the bathroom where he likes to straddle the radiator like a cowboy on a horse! He’ll meow softly and keep her company anywhere; he will even do a trick or two. He loves to play fetch, give a paw for a treat, and play chase or tag. Victor and Rebecca have a very special bond – the gentle giant is a big goofball at the best of times and makes the day a little brighter. |

| A set of lovely commissions brought me to paint the brother and sister team Victor and Victoria. This is Victoria. She is an 8-pound beauty with medium to long elegant fur and a gentle nature. Her coat is thin and smooth to the touch and it always stays that way from her grooming. She is built light and small boned, but also agile. Victoria has a unique feature – her eyes are yellow with teal/green coloring just outside the pupil. Her two toned eyes, the same pattern in each eye, is almost unheard of in felines. With her interesting eyes is an interesting personality. Victoria is a timid cat and spooks at most sounds. She tends to watch from a distance rather than get in the action. However, when most cats flee she will stand her ground with a nerve of steel. To strangers Victoria is an indifferent feline, but to her owner Rebecca she is a loving companion. She will sit in her lap, purr to no end, and rub her head forcefully. She’ll even play fetch, but won’t go so far as to beg for treats. Her intelligence is more evident in how she meows – though scratchy sounding, she talks often and will respond to Becky’s voice and attention. It is as if she understands her words and is trying to express her own back. Quite possibly, she does understand! |
