A new baby is born! We celebrate the arrival of another endangered Masai giraffe named "Amahle Sanna", meaning "beautiful artwork".
This is a handmade, one-of-a-kind art sculpture. My largest sculpture to date, she measures 65" tall, 11" wide, and 25" deep. She is constructed of 10 large gourds, PVC pipe and adhesives, wire, and 48 pounds of air-drying and epoxy base clay. The sculpture weighs 50 pounds overall. Her eyes are taxidermy glass and she has faux fur for her tail end, mane, eyelashes, inner ears, and horn tufts. She's hand painted with acrylics and sealed with a matte water-resistant sealer. ***She is NOT suitable for outdoor display!*** Repeated water exposure will damage her sealer and paint over time.
Amahle was created for the GreenHill Gallery art exhibit "Beauty of the Beast", on public display from April to July 2018. She is fully detailed from her hooves to the tiny fur texture all across her body. Her fur texture was created by hand, one hair at a time. It took 4 months to create to lovely baby and she proudly honors the endangered giraffe species.
